DOWNLOAD RULES

1) Not so much a rule as it is a courtesy, if some asked you what software you are using you say something like “Pixelh8 Music Tech / Drum Tech / Death Ray you can get it from his website“.
2) No, you can not sell or distribute this software, it’s free and it’s mine to distribute. That way I can make updates, if there are any major problems for any specific types of users.
3) No, you can not sample the sounds and distribute them as part of a commercial or non-commercial sample library, why use a sample when you can use the real thing? Because I designed the software as a real time instrument, on a familiar interface.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1) Yes, you can use it in your commercial and non-commercial music.
2) Yes, it’s compatible with the repsective systems. I have used it for years.
3) Yes, it’s quite good fun.
4) Yes, Room 1 Studios still owns the copyright to the software, and will do for another 74 years.
5) Yes, you can email me about the tracks you have made with the software, it’s nice to hear it being used.
Don’t email MP3’s just send links to your MySpace etc.
6) Yes, popstars are using it.
7) Yes, people are using it in schools in the UK to study GCSE music. If you plan to do so get your Music / ICT teacher to send me an email about it.
8) No, you can not host it on your site, and no you can not leech it from my site, I will know.
9) No, you can not sample the sounds and use them as part of a sample library.
10) No, you can not have the source code.
11) No, I can not provide or tell you how to make cartridges.
12) No, I can not tell you how to set it all up, I don’t know your set up.

WHY?

1) Why is it free?
Because I am getting more involved in the music education and software it’s nice to see something being used by lots of people instead of just me and few others.

2) Is the software you use live, different from this?
Yes, the software I use live is very different, it doesn’t have a pretty menu like the Music Techs do, and just relies on me knowing the different sound registers, it is a lot more complex but also alot harder to use.

3) Can we have the software that you use live?
No, you do no have the hardware or probably the 6K for me to make the hardware for you to run it on.

4) I am new to chip tune music, where do I start?
Listen to music, learn music theory, talk to other chip tuners, and study music, study programming, study math.

5) Why isn’t Music Tech MIDI compatible?
Because Music Tech was designed as a real time instrument, to add more human interaction into live electronic music. I wanted to highlight the machines as instruments as opposed to being a remotely controlled slave device.

What emulator should I use?
You shouldn’t, use the real machines.

7) Why can’t you teach me to be a programmer?
Because I am too busy making new music and new things or playing on Rogue Squadron on the N64.

8) What languages do you use?
BASIC, C, C+, C++, Z80 Assembly, 6502 Assembly, HTML, php, Java, English and some American slang.

Pixelh8 Music Tech Master Stroke DS

The Pixelh8 Music Tech Master Stroke DS is a real time synthesizer for the Nintendo DS system it allows for extensive sound design and is the natural evolution of the Music Tech Series allowing for the classic chip tune sound on a modern device.

The new system allows for keyboard style play by pressing “X” to bring up the 2 Ocatve Xylophone or classic Music Tech mode by using the directional pad to control the sounds in the same way as the Music Tech Game Boy and Pro Performer Game Boy Advance.

Loads of new combinations are possible as you can now combine interval settings with time based effects as well as using the noise channel instead of tone and the easy change between menus allow for quick change during performance.

All sounds are produced via the on board sound chip and no samples or sample manipulation is used, this is a real time chip tune synth for the DS.

Menu 1 controls the Wave Duty, Pan and Volume.

Menu 2 controls Keys and Intervals.

Menu 3 controls time based effects set 1.

Menu 4 controls time based effects set 2.

Menu 5 are some of my favourite sounds, Attack and Release and Credits Screen.

Menu 6 Controls Octave, Whammy Bar, Tone/Noise and 3 sound patches so you can recall them quickly during performance.

The “X” button brings up a simple 2 octave Xylophone to perform the designed sound on. Whats more is that options can be changed during play, in Classic play mode, in Xylophone mode it’s only one menu away.

Pixelh8 Music Tech Pro Performer Synthesizer is software that runs on an unmodified Game Boy Advance or Nintendo DS, enabling you to be able to control the on board sound, turning the GBA/DS into a real time instrument.

Based on the original Game Boy Music Tech V1.0, Pro Performer offers hundreds more options and possible sounds.

The version that is currently available is the Interface Amnesty BETA Edition which was launched as part the Abandon Normal Devices Festival in Liverpool September 26th, 2009. The BETA Version which is 95% of the completed version.

Pixelh8 Music Tech V2.0 Game Boy / GBA

The Original Pixelh8 Music Tech Game Boy Synthesizer is software that runs on an unmodified Game Boy or Game Boy Advance, enabling you to be able to control the game boys on board sound. You can edit the wave duty, pitch sweep and volume envelope as well as new additions such as unison, 5th power chords and octaves, turning the Game Boy into a real time instrument.

This updated version V2.0 allows for the addition of a Major 3rd, a Minor 3rd as well as All Major Keys, All Minor Keys, All Harmonic Minor Keys, All Whole Tone & All Pentatonic Keys. That’s a lot of keys.
